A tooth bleaching tray needs to be custom made. That is why most of these systems are sold through your local dentists office. Your cosmetic dentist can take impressions of your mouth and create the tray from those. Some of these system can be bought over the internet and provide a kit for making impressions yourself. You then send these impressions back to the company and they send you the tray in the mail. Unfortunately, taking impressions for your mouth can be more difficult than it sounds and it is often a good idea to have your dentist do it.

Professional, office-based, whitening systems do not use a tooth bleaching tray to help whiten teeth. These systems will give a patient the most dramatic results in the shortest period of time. Instead of a tooth whitening tray these systems use a whitening lamp to activate a gel placed on the teeth.
